NBA Finals Preview

The NBA Finals kick off on Thursday night at 9pm EST on ABC as the Golden State Warriors take on the Toronto Leonards...I mean Raptors. Let’s be honest here though, Toronto has been pretty much a one man show all postseason long, its been Kawhi Leonard vs everybody else. Yes Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol, Pascal Siakam, and Fred VanVleet have had their moments but not nearly as much as Kawhi.

Kawhi and company have the tough task of going up against the powerhouse Golden State Warriors who are making their 5th straight Finals appearance and looking to win their 3rd straight championship. Golden State has been playing great even without their best player Kevin Durant, who went down with an injury in game 5 of the Warriors series with the Houston Rockets and has not played since. It is being reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo sports that Durant will travel with the team to Toronto. It could be possible he plays in game 2 on Sunday night.

Series Schedule:

Game 1:Thursday, 5/30/19|9:00pm

Game 2:Sunday, 6/2|/198:00pm

Game 3:Wednesday,6/5/19|9:00pm

Game 4:Friday, 6/7/19|9:00pm

Game 5(If necessary):Monday, 6/10/19|9:00pm

Game 6(If necessary):Thursday,6/13/19|9:00pm

Game 7(If necessary): Sunday, 6/16/19|8:00pm

Keys to the series for Toronto:

Kawhi needs to keep doing what he’s been doing and more. If he doesn’t this series will be an easy one for Golden State. He might need to average a triple double In order for Toronto to win.

Kyle Lowry and the rest of the starting five will have to match the production of the Warriors starting five in order for the Raptors to compete in this series. They have to be great on the defensive end and not allow the Warriors to get points in transition. The Warriors have too many weapons but if you can slow them down you have a better chance of beating them.

The X factor for the Raptors will be their bench. It has been a strength of theirs all postseason long and it will need to continue to be for the Raptors to have success. If the bench can outscore the Warriors bench,Toronto has a real chance to win this series.

Keys to the series for Golden State:

Draymond Green has been playing the best basketball of his career over the last 2 months. This man has been on a tear as of late,he lost some weight and stopped crying to the refs about everything and has been a true impact player since. If he continues to play the way he has he is going to be tough for anyone on the Raptors to stop.

The Warriors depth is something that has always been questioned but clearly has never been a major problem. Their bench has some solid players who can step In and put up some big numbers. The key for this series is getting the quality production at times when Kawhi isn't in the game. If guys like Jordan Bell and Jonas Jerebko can give them consistent points and production, this series will be fairly easy for the Warriors.

Not many people will agree with this but a major key to this series is the Warriors ability to stop Drake. Yes, you heard that right Drake, (aka Drizzy aka OVO) will be a factor I guarantee it. With the first two games being in Toronto he is going to have Jurassic park going insane. Honestly won’t be shocked to see him performing before the game or even at halftime just to try and throw the Warriors off. Drake needs to be shut down early, I need a Draymond Green and one layup and Green getting up going over and screaming in Drakes face. If they let Drake start giving Nick Nurse back rubs during the game the Warriors could be down 2-0 heading back to Oakland. For the Warriors to have a chance they have to stop Drake.Stop Drake, stop the Raptors.

My prediction:

Considering the fact that if it wasn’t for that damn robot and the magnetic rim in Toronto they wouldn’t even be playing in the Finals there’s no chance they win this series. The Warriors are the best team of this decade maybe even of this century. On top of that they are doing it right now without arguably the best player in basketball Kevin Durant. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are playing like they are trying to prove they don’t need Durant to win he’s just an added bonus. So even without Durant I’m taking the Warriors in 4. That’s right a clean sweep get your best broom ready and start the Champagne campaign now because the Warriors are getting the three-peat.
