NXT Takeover XXV Preview
Saturday, June 1st marks a major milestone for the WWE NXT brand as they will have their 25th Takeover Special. There have been so many great moments in NXT Takeover history and on Saturday night there will be even more great moments added. Takeover XXV comes to you from Bridgeport, Connecticut inside the Webster Bank Arena at 7pm EST on WWE Network. There will be a total of five matches on the main card, four championship matches.
Matt Riddle Vs Rodrick Strong:
This match should be fantastic as Matt Riddle has yet to have a bad match since joining NXT a few months back and Roddy Strong is a great performer. These two have developed a rivalry over the least few weeks and Im looking forward to seeing the match they put on. Strong has been teased to be having tension with his stablemates in Undisputed Era so don't expect them to get involved In this match. If they do get involved though I could see it ending with them costing Strong the match.
Ladder Match for vacant NXT Tag Team Championships:
After the War Raiders (AKA Viking Experience) vacated the titles after being called up to the main roster four teams stepped up and stated their claim for the belts. It will be the Street Profits vs Undisputed Era vs The Forgotten Sons vs Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Putting these four teams in a regular tag team fatal four way match would have been just fine but, add in ladders and this could be the match of the night. All of these teams are capable of putting on great matches and they have proven that in NXT. The Street Profits are a high flying exciting team so I expect some big spots from them. The Undisputed Era are one of the best tag teams in the world with Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. The Forgotten sons are more of a brawling type of team who will lay some heavy shots in on the other three teams. As for Lorcan and Burch these two will have to use their speed and agility to their advantage, expect some nice high flying moves from them as well. In the end I expect the team of Fish and O'Reilly to come out on top regaining the NXT Tag Team Championships because that...is Undisputed.
NXT North American Championship: Velveteen Dream Vs Tyler Breeze:
Velveteen Dream was someone who I didn’t really like at first but man this guy is such a great in ring performer. It also helps that his theme song is super catchy. Anyway, he has had some of the best matches this past year. I expect Saturday night to be no different as he faces Tyler Breeze who recently made his return to NXT. This match should be extremely exciting. Many people have forgotten just how good Tyler Breeze can be as he was never really used right on the main roster. With the high skill level of these two this match should be fast paced and high flying. I’m taking Velveteen 🎶D R E A M🎶 to retain his North American Championship.
NXT Women’s Championship Match: Shayna Baszler vs Io Shirai:
The women’s title match should be entertaining to say the least Baszler is a brawler and Shirai is a fast paced high flyer. These two have had quite a rivalry and it’s nice to see Shirai get a one on one opportunity against the champ. Baszler has held the title since the all women’s PPV Evolution and I don’t see her losing it anytime soon. With the help of Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, I’m picking Baszler to retain the title.
NXT Championship Match: Adam Cole vs Johnny Gargano:
The rematch we have all been waiting for Adam Cole (BAY BAY) vs Johnny Wrestling. Back at NXT Takeover New York during WrestleMania weekend this two battled in a two-out-of-three falls match for the vacant NXT Championship. It's a match that was absolutely incredible from start to finish, it was fast paced, high flying, and brutal to say the least. Johnny Gargano was finally able to reach the top of the NXT mountain and defeated Cole despite his best effort and a little help from the Undisputed Era. Saturday night Cole will look to right the wrong and try to claim the NXT Championship for the first time in his career. I fully expect this to be the match of the night. These two are incredible in the ring and I can not wait to watch this match. You can bet the Undisputed Era will be involved in one way or another to help Adam Cole. While I love Gargano as the champion I need a third match between these two so I am taking Adam Cole to win this one.
Make sure you tune in tomorrow night at 7pm EST on WWE Network.
