UFC 244 Recap: The Ringside Doctor is the Baddest MotherF***er in MMA....

What an epic night of fights!! If you missed this event you really missed out, from the prelims to the main event this card had it all! One of the most anticipated UFC cards in a long time and boy did it live up to the hype. All of the fights in the prelims ended by either KO/TKO which really set the tone for the night. The main card followed it up with some great moments as well from the first fight to the main event the action was awesome. The energy in the building was electric as the Madison Square Garden crowd did not disappoint. For as great as the action was the event didn't end the way anyone wanted it to...Let's take a look at how this card panned out....

Preliminary Card Results:

Womens Flyweight Bout: Katlyn Chookagian defeated Jennifer Maia via Decision.

Welterweight Bout: Lymann Good defeated Chance Rencountre via 3rd round KO/TKO.

Featherweight Bout: Hakeem Dawodu defeated Julio Arce via Decision.

Heavyweight Bout: Jairzinho Rozenstruik defeated Andrei Arlovski via 1st round KO/TKO.

Middleweight Bout: Edmen Shahbazyan defeated Brad Tavares via 1st round KO/TKO.

Featherweight Bout: Shane Burgos defeated Makwan Amirkhani via 3rd round KO/TKO.

Light Heavyweight Bout: Corey Anderson defeated Johnny Walker via 1st round KO/TKO.

Some solid action to kickoff the night of fights with the preliminary card. In the prelims the biggest highlight came from Corey Anderson. Anderson made a huge statement with a dominate knockout win over Johnny Walker and has solidified himself as a real contender in the Light Heavyweight Division. Rozenstruik had a nice knockout over Arlovski as I would say those two knockouts were the highlights of the prelims.

Main Card Results:

The main card kicked off with a bang, literally. Kevin Lee vs Gregor Gillespie was first up and Kevin Lee ended it will a huge head kick knockout. If you haven't seen it yet, go look it up because it was brutal, watch it in slow motion to see just how brutal it was. Hopefully, Gillespie is okay as he has a bright future ahead but man this knockout was awesome!

Kevin Lee defeated Gregor Gillespie via 1st round KO/TKO.

Next up was Derrick Lewis vs Blagoy Ivanov in a clash of heavyweights. This one was one punch away from being over multiple times. Lewis landed some heavy shots but Ivanov was able to eat them. Ivanov landed three takedowns but in the end, the fight went the distance and the Judges scored in favor of Lewis.

Derrick Lewis defeated Blagoy Ivanov via split decision.

A welterweight bout between Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Vicente Luque was the next fight for the night and this one was another great one. The first two minutes of the first round started off slow and then these two started getting after it. Both guys landed some big shots and it looked like "Wonderboy" got stunned a few times. Luque didn't escape without getting tagged by a few shots as well as the first round came to an end. Thompson started to find his groove in round 2 as he really started putting the pressure on Luque. He landed a huge front kick to the chin of Luque that knocked him down. This fight would go to the third and final round in what was a close fight at first. Thompson came out and dominated the first part of the third round. He knocked Luque down for a second time and really took control of the fight. The fight would go to the judges and all three scored it in favor of Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.

Stephen Thompson defeated Vicente Luque via unanimous decision.

Next up it was time for the Co-Main event of the night, Kelvin Gastelum vs Darren Till. This fight was in danger of not happening due to some visa issues for Till but thankfully, it was all solved and the show went on. A lot of clinch work going on to start this fight as it didn't start as the most exciting of fights. I think with how the past few fights had gone the fans got a little spoiled and wanted some more action. After a pretty slow first round, we were hoping for a little more action in the second round. We got more then we had in the first round but nothing overly exciting. We did have an eye poke that stopped the fight briefly but thankfully Darren Till was able to continue. It really seemed like both guys were trying not to fight too aggressively as they were both really trying to feel each other out. We went to the third round and still not too much action between these two. Each guy landed some shots but nothing major. Fans started to grow restless and the boo birds started to rain down. Gastelum scored a late takedown which helped him on the scorecard but neither guy really put on a "WOW' type of performance. The second straight fight to go the distance, but this one was a lot more closer than the last one.

Darren Till defeats Kelvin Gastelum via Split decision.

Finally it was time for the Main event, the moment we have all been waiting for Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal to determine the "Baddest MotherF***er" in MMA. The Rock made his entrance with the BMF title and then Diaz and Masvidal made their entrances. It was finally time to let these two go to war.

Diaz vs Masvidal the main event of UFC 244 and a bout to determine the Baddest MotherFu**er. One of the most anticipated fights in a long time...From the entrances this just had the big fight feel as you could feel the energy in the building. There was no quick flying knee knockout, but both guys came out firing! Masvidal came out and landed a big elbow that cut Diaz over the eye. Diaz was able to recover, as Masvidal didn't rush into the ground and pound game. After about two minutes of not much action on the ground, Diaz finally was stood back up and they got into the clinch for pretty much the remainder of the first round. Diaz landed a nice big shot right before the horn but Masvidal just ate it and smiled. This is everything I hoped it would be and it was only round one!!

Round two started with Diaz trying to put the pressure on Masvidal. Diaz got dropped by a nice punch from Masvidal and as he was laying on the ground he was begging Jorge to bring the fight to the ground but he didn't and we got back to the stand up. It was incredible to see Diaz get hit with some of these shots and not be knocked out. Masvidal continued to put the pressure on Diaz as he was landing just about everything he threw. Towards the end of round two Masvidal landed a takedown and secured the back of Diaz. After two rounds Masvidal was up 2-0.

We headed to round three and with Nate Diaz trailing on the scorecard he needed to have a big round and he came out firing. Masvidal was able to slip most of the shots Diaz was throwing though. The body shots of Masvidal were landing almost at will and you could tell they were hurting Diaz. Nate finally starting hitting some shots but Masvidal was just eating them up and egging Diaz on. We had some more clinch game going on towards the end of the round and Masvidal had top control but Diaz was still throwing shots from his back as the round came to a close.

After three rounds Masvidal was definitely up 3-0...and as we were getting ready to start the 4th round the doctor came into the octagon to check on Diaz cut and ruined everything. Thats right folks the ring side doctor called an end to the fight. Complete bullshit by the doctor, does he not know who Nate Diaz is?!?!? Yes, the cut was bad but there is no way it should've been stopped. It was a great three rounds but such a bullshit ending and we need to run this thing back ASAP.

Overall it was a solid night of fights and its a damn shame the main event ended the way it did. This fight needs to happen again and we need to find out who truly deserves to be the "Baddest MotherFu**er" is.
