UFC Fight Night: Smith vs Teixeira

A Wednesday night Fight Night? Sign me up! Tonight the UFC puts on its second card in the last five nights. Highlighted by a Light Heavyweight bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira. Once again Jacksonville, Florida will be the host city for the event as it seems until Fight island is ready this is where UFC events will be.

While the star power on this card is nowhere near what Saturdays it should still be a great night of fights. In the main event we have Anthony “Lionheart” Smith and Glover Teixeira in what could be a fight to determine a future number one contender for the Light heavyweight title. On top of what should be a very exciting main event, we have one of the most exciting fighters in the heavyweight division in Ovince Saint Preux as he takes on Ben Rothwell. The other fight that could steal the show is the lightweight bout between Drew Dober and Alexander Hernandez.

We have 10 fights scheduled for tonight’s card so lets take a look starting with the prelims...

Prelims-6:00pm on ESPN+

Women's Bantamweight Bout: Sijara Eubanks(5-4-0) vs Sarah Moras(6-6-0)

I'd be lying if I said I have ever seen either of these women fight so I couldn't tell you anything about them. We will just have to wait and see if either one of them leave a lasting impression on me after tonights fight.

Lightweight Bout: Gabriel Benitez(21-8-0) vs Omar Antonio Morales Ferrer(1-0-0)

We have an experienced veteran in Benitez going up against the newcomer Ferrer in this one. Benitez has shown he can be an exciting fighter at times but it will be interesting to see how he fairs against a guy who is only fighting his second UFC fight. This could be one where Ferrer surprises Benitez with his ability and picks up a win.

Featherweight Bout: Hunter Azure(7-0-0) vs Brian Kelleher(20-10-0)

This one should be the best fight on the prelim card as Hunter Azure looks to stay undefeated while Brian Kelleher looks to get back into the conversation as a contender in the featherweight division. Both guys are coming off wins and both looked good in their last fights so this one has a lot of potential with both guys having something to prove.

Heavyweight Bout: Chase Sherman(11-5-0) vs Isaac Villanueva(0-0-0)

We have a heavyweight fight that has the UFC debut of Isaac Villanueva as he goes up against Chase Sherman. With it being Villanueva's debut we don't know much about him and as for Sherman he hasn't fought since 2018. I feel like in true Heavyweight fashion this one is going to be an ugly fight with someone getting knocked out.

Main Card-9:00pm on ESPN+

Lightweight Bout: Michael Johnson(20-15-0) vs Thiago Moises(12-4-0)

Our first fight on the main card has two lightweights looking to bounce back after tough losses in their last fights. Michael Johnson is usually pretty entertaining to watch so I am excited to see what he can provide. As for Moises, I haven't seen enough of him to really know how good he can be. Either way this should be a pretty solid fight.

Heavyweight Bout: Andrei Arlovski(28-19-0) vs Philipe Lins(0-0-0)

I'm just going to come out and say it, I don't like Andrei Arlovski...Its nothing personal I just find him boring. At this point in his career he is old and slow and ill be rooting against him. Yes, he still does have knockout power but even that is not enough to make me interested in watching him fight. As for Lins this will be his first UFC fight and hopefully he makes it one we won't forget anytime soon.

Bantamweight Bout: Ricky Simon(15-3-0) vs Ray Borg(13-4-o)

The bantamweights are up next as we have two guys who are looking to break into the top 15. Ricky Simon is coming off a loss in his last fight while Ray Borg is coming off a win back in February. Borg has the most to gain by winning this fight as he could jump up quite a bit in the rankings within the division. This could be a fight that mainly stays on the ground for the most part but we will have to wait and see.

Lightweight Bout: Alexander Hernandez(11-2-0) vs Drew Dober(22-9-0)

This is the fight I am most looking forward to as these two lightweights clash. Drew Dober is always entertaining and has proven that he can be a force within the division. As for Alexander Hernandez he is an impressive 11-2 and comes in as the 15th ranked fighter in the division. He was on a little bit of a hot streak before he ran into Donald Cerrone back in 2019 but is coming off a win in his last fight. I am expecting this fight to be the fight of the night as both of these guys will be looking to prove they are legit contenders in the lightweight division.

Heavyweight Bout: Ben Rothwell(37-12-0) vs Ovince Saint Preux(24-13-0)

Ovince Saint Preux is one of the most exciting fighters in UFC and I can't remember the last time he had a bad fight regardless of the outcome. As for Ben Rothwell, I feel like he is at a major disadvantage in this one and I could see Saint Preux being able to take him down almost at will. One advantage Rothwell does have though is that he has some brutal knockout power. If he can catch Saint Preux going in for a takedown it could be over quick.

Light Heavyweight Bout: Anthony Smith(32-14-0) vs Glover Teixeira(30-7-0)

The main event of the evening has two light heavyweights that are looking to be next in line for a title shot. Anthony Smith (who by the way has the best walk out song in Return of The Mack)already had his chance at Champion Jon Jones and came up just short. After that loss Smith bounced back with a major win over Alexander Gustafsson last June. As for Teixeira he is coming in on a three fight win streak and will look to extend that. At 40 years old this could be his last real chance at a run to become Light Heavyweight champion. This should be a great one and I don't think it will go all five rounds.

Make sure you tune in tonight on ESPN+ starting at 6:00pm!
