WWE Stomping Grounds Preview:
This Sunday June 23rd WWE Stomping Grounds takes place live on the WWE Network from Tacoma, Washington at 7pm ET. This PPV has a lot of rematches from the last event Super Showdown. That was a pretty forgettable event as nothing major happened and it really wasn't exciting at all. Hopefully, Stomping Grounds will be at least a little bit more exciting but I for one am not really excited for it. WWE has been getting really hard to watch on a consistent basis and they really need to change something. So, let's jump into our preview for this Sunday's Stomping Grounds.
Samoa Joe vs Ricochet-United States Championship Match:
It has been a weird run for Samoa Joe as United States Champion he lost the title to Rey Mysterio but then Rey got hurt and had to vacate the title and now Joe is the Champion again. There was a five man elimination match on Raw Monday that Ricochet won to become the number one contender. Ricochet is so fun to watch and anytime he's in the ring you never know what to expect. Joe is very under appreciated as well and I expect this to be one of the best matches of the night. I'm going with the upset here and taking Ricochet to win this one and become the new US Champion.
Tony Nese vs Akira Tozawa vs Drew Gulak-Cruiserweight Championship Match:
The crusierweights don't get enough credit for how good they are and definitely don't get enough tv time. This will be a highflying exciting match that will more than likely be on the preshow because that's what WWE does. Tony Nese is the champion and I think it will stay that way after this match.
Xavier Woods and Big E vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn:
This match is a product of Owens and Zayn getting involved with WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. Woods and Big E are one of the greatest tag teams of this generation. Owens and Zayn are two of the best in the business today as well, so this match should be fantastic. With how great all four of these guys are it should be an extremely exciting match. I'm taking Owens and Zayn to win this one to keep their momentum going, they need the win more than Woods and Big E.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan vs Heavy Machinery-Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match:
This feels like it was just thrown on so that we had a tag team championship match on the card. It should be a pretty good match though, as Bryan and Rowan are both great In the ring and its nice to see Heavy Machinery getting their first little push here. I feel like the match will be somewhat quick and Bryan and Rowan should retain their titles.
Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre:
YAWN...for what feels like the 900th time Roman Reigns will face Drew McIntyre and I've seen enough of these two fighting. It is getting real old seeing this guys constantly fight even with Shane McMahon being involved now there is still not much to look forward to with this match. Both of these guys are great performers but it just feels like there isnt anything else for them to do so they just keep having their feud continue. Anyway, Reigns lost to Shane at Super Showdown and now Shane is having McIntyre fight for him so more than likely Reigns is going to win this to setup a rematch with Shane McMahon.
Bayley vs Alexa Bliss-Smackdown Women's Championship Match:
Alexa Bliss is on Raw while Bayley is on Smackdown and is the Women's Champion...Why are they fighting? Because it's the WWE and literally nothing makes sense right now at all. With the wild card rule that was put in place after the superstar shakeup it feels like they just got rid of the brand spilt without actually saying they did. Smackdown has plenty of women who could have gotten a shot at Bayley but for some reason they decided to give it to Alexa Bliss. Whatever. As for the match itself it should be a good one, both of these women are great performers and it should make for one of the more exciting matches of the night. It's been a little while since we have seen Bliss in a big match like this so it will be nice to see her back in the spotlight. However, it doesn't make much sense for Bayley to lose the title as she has only had it since Money in The Bank PPV. For that reason Im taking Alexa Bliss to win this one because like I said earlier its the WWE and nothing makes sense right now.
Becky Lynch vs Lacey Evans-Raw Women's Championship Match:
Becky Lynch has been one of the best things going for WWE since last November. While she has lost a little momentum as of late due to this feud with Lacey Evans not being that exciting their match this Sunday could change all of that. If they put on a great match it will get more people invested in the feud. As great as Becky is you'd think this feud would be a bigger deal. Lacey Evans just does not excite that many people though and hopefully this Sunday will be the end of the feud. I am taking Becky Lynch to retain the title here.
Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler-Steel Cage WWE Championship Match:
Ever since he won the title at Wrestlemania Kofi Kingston's reign has been pretty subpar. It has nothing to do with him at all, as he has been a good champion its just the WWE product is struggling right now and his title reign is being affected because of it. Dolph Ziggler came back out of nowhere which was surprising and their match at Super Showdown was pretty good as well. Now, with the addition of a Steel Cage as Ziggler requested, this could be the match of the night. I fully expect Kofi to retain the title but, we have to keep in mind that Brock Lesnar still holds the Money in The Bank contract and can cash in at anytime. With Smackdown Live moving to Fox in a few months you have to figure they would want some big names so maybe just maybe Brock could cash in here after the match...but I doubt it. So my pick is for Kofi Kingston to retain the title.
Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin-Universal Championship Match:
Do we really have to watch this? I love Seth Rollins I really do he's one of the best in the business today. There are just soooo many better options for him to face than freaking Baron Corbin. I used to be a big Corbin fan back in his NXT days and when he first got called up to the main roster. But now, he is so boring to watch. Every single time he is in the ring it's just a snooze fest. One of the interesting things with this match is that there is going to be a special guest referee so it'll be interesting to see who that is. Seth Rollins should win this one however, and hopefully for our sake it doesn't go all that long. Just like with Kofi Kingston though Rollins will have to be aware of the Beast Brock Lesnar although I really doubt he will even be there.
Hopefully this show will be a lot better than Super Showdown was but well just have to watch and see come Sunday Night. Make sure you tune in at 7pm ET. on the WWE Network.
